What's New
Requested Delivery Dates Integrated Into Reports:
Certain shippers generate their own delivery dates for their customers through internal systems such as SAP. When a customer places an order, the specified delivery time is what they are expecting. This can be significant because while Rail Ops people focus on ShipmentVision ETAs, a customer might not care about ETAs if they were promised product based on a delivery date provided by their shipper. All they know is that a customer service rep has promised them product on a certain date, and that this particular date is generated internally. Shippers who feed delivery dates into ShipmentVision from their own systems would benefit greatly from the ability to compare the promised delivery date versus the actual delivery date, allowing them the opportunity to measure transit times against what they are promising customers (as opposed to historical transit times calculated over the prior 13-month period). In addition, this provides them data, which they can use to analyze those same internal promised transit times and adjust accordingly.
UMLER:
ShipmentVision has recently added UMLER (Universal Machine Language Equipment Register) data to the Web site. The UMLER tab is now located next to the historical tab on the trace detail screens within ShipmentVision. Once the tab is selected, the user is given access to specific car characteristics. These characteristics include tare weights, load limits, dimensions, and attributes. All of this information provides in-depth knowledge of the equipment.
Employee Spotlight
Nate Kaufman is this quarter's spotlight employee! Nate came to Transentric having previously worked as an Operations Senior for Best Buy. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a BA in English with emphasis in writing, linguistics, and technical communication. Currently, he is working on his MS in Computer Science.
Nate strengthens the Transentric team as our Technical Writer and Marketing Specialist. He is responsible for how our customers perceive Transentric. One of the ways he does this is by creating our marketing materials and document designs. For those who attended the User Conference, Nate was the designer behind such pieces as the agenda, direct mail piece, and conference logo. Additionally, Nate oversees updates and changes to both www.transentric.com and www.upds.com, and is responsible for software help and training materials development. Nate enjoys Transentric because of the diversified work environment his job provides, and he really likes the people he works with because, "they are always friendly and professional!"
When Nate is not at work or attending class, he enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and dog. He also enjoys playing video games, watching movies, and spending time outdoors, specifically hunting and fishing. One of Nate's particularly favorite TV shows/movies is The Simpsons, though he prefers Seasons 1-11; he has actually seen the new hit movie about 4 times!
User Conference Updates
This year UPDS joined us in our Annual User Conference. The big event was at The Allerton Hotel in downtown Chicago and was quite a success. After a day of golfing at the Cog Hill Golf Course, the evening of April 29th consisted of a Welcome Reception at The Allerton with a beautiful view of the city.
On April 30th, the conference was in full swing with a day of fascinating presentations. Attendees heard information on the emerging international market, saw demos of numerous report functions, and they learned about many new developments that are in the works. Motivational speaker Terry Watson spoke about how we can really make the most of our jobs and our lives. He implored us that we do not need to be caught up in a world of what society tells us is normal.
Nighttime brought an exciting Chicago Cubs baseball game in a luxurious rooftop suite. The Cubs dominated the Milwaukee Brewers 19-5!
On May 1st, the User Conference concluded with some one-on-one training between Transentric-UPDS employees and attendees. Thanks to everyone for coming. Hope to see you next year!
